Tips for buying a car.
Buying a car for the first time can be daunting. It's your money and you don't want to waste it on a banger of a car. So, I am hoping that over the next couple of posts I can cover some tips and links to help steer you onto a good car that lasts you more than 12 months.
Set your budget.
By this I mean if you want to buy a car for £1000, then you need to account for the car insurance, road tax and MOT.
I would look for a car with 12 months MOT on it and also ask to see the previous MOT's for the car to see if the milage corresponds. If you don't know what an MOT is. Then every year 12 months a car will need to be inspected at a MOT station to check that it is road worthy. It the car fails the MOT then it will need to be fixed or parts replaced to pass the MOT. So if you see a car being sold with no MOT then you need to ask yourself do I buy it and take a chance( a bit risky ) or ask the seller to put it through the MOT and see it it passes or fails.
Car Insurance
Speak to some insurance companies about quotes for cars that you are thinking about buying to give you an idea of the cost. You will find that the larger the engine size the more it will cost to insure. So a good size car would be a 1L to 1.2L size engine. Remember to shop around for car insurance it can range from £500 to £5000 depending on your age, engine size, car type and how long you have been driving.
Road tax
When buying a car now you have to road tax. The road tax can range from £0 to £180 depending on the car emissions. The less emissions the less money you pay.
SO setting your budget can be:
Car with 12 months MOT £1000
Insurance average cost for 12 months £1500
Road tax for 12 months £125
Total average £2625
